War to the Knife…

Pakistan School Attack: Taliban Militants Kill More Than 140 in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Pakistan —Taliban militants laid siege to a Pakistan school in a brazen hours-long attack on Tuesday, killing more than 130 children in an atrocity condemned by the White House as "heinous" and "horrific.”

…The Pakistani Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack, which Pakistani officials said appeared to be aimed at the children of senior military personnel.

…"The gunmen entered class by class and shot some kids one by one," one student who was in the Army Public School in Peshawar at the time told local media.

"They burnt a teacher in front of the students in a classroom," he added. "They literally set the teacher on fire with gasoline and made the kids watch."

Find the guilty. Kill them. Take all of their shit. Put their families out on the street and burn their house down.

Find everyone who gave them aid; friends, family, neighbors. Take all of their shit. Put their family out on the street and burn their house down.

Any local government employee or politician who helped in any way, from street sweeper to police officer to politician, Take all of their shit. Put their families out on the street and burn their houses down.

If a government was involved- Fuck ‘em. Find where the officials are hiding, warn the residents, bomb the shit out of location and the surrounding area. Tell the civilians who’s fault it is their neighborhood now looks like the surface of the moon. Tell the civilians to get keep their asshole leaders in line, or else.

Enough of this pussy footing bullshit.

Study Shows Listening to Music While you Work is a Good Thing.

This is how Ebola can get a foothold in the U.S.

At a news conference Wednesday, Dr. Mark Lester confirmed that a nurse asked Duncan on his first visit whether he had been in an area affected by the Ebola outbreak that has killed thousands in West Africa.

"A checklist was in place for Ebola in this hospital for several weeks. That checklist was utilized by the nurse, who did ask [the] question [if the patient had been to Africa,]" Lester said. "[...] Regretfully, that information [was not shared] with the full team."

As the medical team assessed Duncan on his first visit, they thought it was a low-grade viral infection. Dr. Edward Goodman, a Texas Health Presbyterian infectious disease specialist, said when Duncan went to the emergency room Thursday he was not vomiting or having diarrhea, but he did have a fever and some abdominal pain.

"All the information wasn't present as they made their clinical decision," Lester said.

Because one or more hospital employees dropped the ball, there are dozens of folks who have been exposed, including 5 children who could have spread the crap amongst their classmates.

As of right now, the CDC is telling us not to worry, all is well.

Hhhhmmm.

I think I’m going to pick up some N95 or N100 masks, gloves and some bleach...

Outlook 2010 Error: “outlook cannot display this view"

I accidentally deleted an email in my Outlook inbox this afternoon. No biggie, clicked over to the Deleted Items folder and wham!

“Outlook cannot display this view.”

Clicking ‘OK’ did nothing, I imagine because it will throw the same error for every deleted email. I’d be clicking until judgment day. Outlook webmail displays the deleted items fine, soooo…

Google to the rescue:

Start –> run –> "outlook.exe /cleanviews"

All better.

Another School District Fears Picture of Gun

Mike McDaniel weighed in on a Washington Post story;

New York high school bans National Guard recruiter from distributing National Guard T-shirts (and bars students from wearing them)

Long story short- The shirts have a silhouette of a guardsman with rifle in front of the American flag and “National Guard” across the top. The school district has a policy forbidding students from wearing anything that has a weapon on it.

“Superintendent of RCS Schools, Alan McCartney says rules are rules and if an exception is made for one shirt with a gun on it, where do you draw the line? “One of the problems you have in school during this period in our history is that the weapon becomes the focal point for some people,” McCartney says…. “[T]his has nothing to do with patriotism, nothing to do with anybody disliking the military, it has nothing to do with the recruiter himself, it just has to do with the fact that there was a weapon on the shirt and that just doesn’t have a place in a high school,” he says….”

Two paragraphs in Mr. McDaniel’s piece jump out at me-

“Where do you draw the line? I’ll be glad to explain. Schools are not there to “educate students to be neutral,” but to be proud of their nation and grateful to those that defend it. A substantial part of the educational process is transferring the values that have made America successful and free to new generations such that they too will appreciate the value of liberty and the sacrifices that must be made to keep it. The wearing of a National Guard t-shirt seems among the least offensive symbols a teenager might choose to embrace.”

And-

“Any school superintendent or principal that can’t see the difference between honest patriotism and frivolous, nihilistic, bloody video game images, and the clear line dividing them, calls into question their fitness for their position. Violence is carried out by individuals, not the tools they employ.  Firearms are neutral, neither good nor evil.  A rational policy would proscribe depictions of violence, not the implements of liberty.”

Another example of ‘zero-tolerance’ equals ‘zero-thought’.

Read both articles, they are concise and to the point.

Outlook 2010 Reminders are screwed up.

My Outlook reminders were popping up every 5 minutes no matter what I set the delay for.
I don't know how Outlook keeps track of reminders, but something was corrupted.
The fix:

Start --> Run; "outlook.exe /cleanreminders"

Problem solved.

Online Learning: Teach Yourself Python in Less Than 4 Months, Part I

The purpose of this article is to lay out a general time management template for anyone who wants to jump in to programming and computer science with little or no experience in the field.  A future article will flesh out the details, providing links to learning resources and other materials freely available online.  [Edit: See the second article in the series, which covers learning benchmarks for beginner Python programmers.]

AND-

Online Learning: A Bachelor's Level Computer Science Program Curriculum

Introduction
A few months back we took an in-depth look at MIT’s free online Introduction to Computer Science course, and laid out a self-study time table to complete the class within four months, along with a companion post providing learning benchmarks to chart your progress. In the present article, I'll step back and take a much more broad look at com-sci course offerings available for free on the internet, in order to answer a deceptively straightforward question: is it possible to complete the equivalent of a college bachelor’s degree in computer science through college and university courses that are freely available online? And if so, how does one do so?

Where’s my McFlurry, dammit?!

Woman allegedly set car on fire after man refused to buy her a McFlurry

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Witnesses said a woman set a man's car on fire in Jacksonville after he refused to buy her a McFlurry at McDonald's.

Fucking Florida…

There is a rule that goes something like “Only date a woman who’s a little crazier than you can handle…”

I should start writing these down.

Who do I have to blow to get medico to peek in my ear?

There has been some pressure in there, off and on, for a month+. The ringing (Tinnitus?) is starting to be a problem. I don’t want to go to the Doc-in-a Box walk in clinic and spend who knows how long in the waiting room, so I called the local clinic conglomerate to make an appointment. Wading through the options I finally get a live person on the line.

Me: I’d like to schedule and appt.

Voice: Do you have a primary care physician?

Me: No, I just need to see someone about an possible ear infection.

Voice: I’ll transfer you to dsjfhdifasdfidfi (garbled), they have a list of doctors currently accepting new patients.

Me: Wait, I’m not looking for a new…

She transferred me. Bitch.

Robo-Operator: Thank you for calling blah blah blah if this is an emergency hang up and dial 911 blah blah.

Me: Grumblefrakinshit

Robo-Operator: Press 1 for something or other. Press 2 for infernal medicine something else. Press 3 for who-the-fuck-cares….

Me: Grumblefuckpainintheassgrumble:

Robo-Operator: …Press 39 for…

Me: Goddamit!

And I hung up. Red took pity and called for me. In 3 minutes I had an appointment for tomorrow morning.

So pissed off right now…

It Works.

Last week the boys and I have were dragging ass in the morning, the result of which is I was late to work too often.

I had to resort to an old parenting technique handed down from one generation to the next: I bribed ‘em with breakfast at McDonalds.

Not only was I on time to work, I even got a primo parking spot.

State of the Union, anyone?

1510892_217894545065763_443404930_n

Did any of you watch our Presidente give his little speech?

Me neither. Dude’s credibility balance is so deep in the negative numbers if he told me Christie Brinkley was the hottest woman to ever walk the earth I would request she submit to an immediate dong check.

Ugh, Where the hell is the kleenex?

The creeping crud caught up with me this week. Snot flowed in gentle green waves from my nose and down the back of my throat. Usually I push through, sit at my desk blowing my nose and hacking. Not this time. A hearty “Fukkit” was wheezed and I stayed my ass home for two days.

Even though my voice sounds like I gargled with crushed glass, I’m feeling pretty good today.
